Heat Stroke and 5 Ways to Prevent It

With the ongoing summer and the heated-up atmosphere, heatstroke cases can rise rapidly. Heat Stroke is a commonly heard medical term but quite a lot of people are unaware of its symptoms, causes and ways to prevent it.

What Exactly is a Heat Stroke?

Heat Stroke is a medical emergency when your core body temperature reaches past 104 Fahrenheit or even higher. This usually happens when you are exposed to extremely heated up atmospheres or indulge in extreme physical activities at high-temperature conditions. Heatstroke can be serious if not treated immediately which can cause major organ damage or in some cases, even death.

The Symptoms of Heat Stroke

The primary symptoms of heatstroke are as follows:

* High body temperature, above 104 Fahrenheit

* Slurred speech, agitation or seizures

* Skin turns red with increasing temperature

* Headache

* Rapid breathing

* Nausea and vomiting

* High rate of heartbeat

What to Do in Case of a Heat Stroke

If someone is suffering heatstroke it is very crucial to attend to them immediately. Try to cool them down by spraying cold water or a cold-water bath. Remove extra clothing and make sure they are no longer in a heated-up place. Contact the nearest doctor and seek medical attention at the earliest.

How To Prevent a Heat Stroke

There are quite a few ways to prevent a heart stroke and if they are followed well, the chances of suffering a heart stroke are reduced largely.

Refrain from Wearing Excess Clothing: It is important to make sure that you are not wearing too many clothes that make you uncomfortable in warm climates and sweat too much. If you constantly wear too many clothes in heated-up environments, you may suffer from heat injuries similar to a heat stroke.

Always Keep Yourself Hydrated: During summer it is very significant to drink a lot of water and fluid-based drinks. Keeping yourself well hydrated all the time is crucial to maintaining good health in summer and all year round.

Use Sun Protection: In summer, you should use sunscreens and sunglasses whenever you go out. It protects both and body and skin from the extreme heat outside.

Refrain from  Alcohol: Drinking excess alcohol can increase the risk of incurring a heat stroke. It affects the ability of the body of regulating the core temperature.

Make Sure You Aren’t Stuck in Small Heated Up Spaces: This can be anywhere from a car or any congested space. If anyone is stuck in high temperatures for long periods, there is a huge possibility that they might suffer a heat stroke.

It is important to be well aware of the symptoms and causes of heat stroke in summer. Stay hydrated and sun-protected to be safe against the summer heat. Until next time, Stay Healthy!
